Did you know the world celebrates yoga every year on June 21? Isn’t that great! Back in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Yoga as a day to promote harmony and peace in the world.
The ancient physical and mental practice that originated in India has evolved into many different styles of yoga that are practiced all around the globe today. But even though it has changed over the millennia, one thing remains: we keep coming back to it because it helps us feel better.
The UN picked that day because it is typically the day with the longest amount of daylight in the birthplace of yoga, India. It’s a day we can focus on shining our own light into the world around us.
International Day of Yoga is a day to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga. This year’s theme is Yoga for Well-Being.
Here’s the class we did together to celebrate our love of yoga. Where we focused on our own mental well-being because we when feel better, we do better. And when we feel and do better, those around us feel better too.
Intention: I am enough. I am at peace.
Affirmation: I love myself for who I am.
