Meet the Members with this Member Spotlight: Say hi to Missy!
To strengthen our yoga community, you’ll receive a Members Only email featuring one of your fellow members once a month. This month, I talked with Missy. I love how she uses the on-demand and archived classes to help her get into a creative flow.
☀️ In a few words, tell me who you are.
Artist – painter, Mother of two, Creative, Wife of dentist, caretaker of two dogs and a turtle (and a squirrel outside), love to play tennis, and of course practice yoga and meditation, inspired by travel, optimist.
☀️ What is your favorite Stacey Stufflebeam Yoga yoga class?
I enjoy catching up on the archived live classes. The progressive nature of the classes often focuses on building to a certain pose throughout the month to ensure success and comfort on the way. Each class offers a refinement to that monthly pose and preparatory steps to get there comfortably. However, I really think that in each class the way she moves in a progressive way by pre-stretching the parts that you will call upon later and preparing the body to move and hold is the BEST part of each session. The build-up to the challenge and then the cool down. Stacey really warms up the body progressively.
My favorite thing about these archived live classes is that each month, there is a thematic phrase or goal for our mental and spiritual strength. Stacey selects guiding thoughts that when utilized regularly throughout your day, work as affirmation to the practice.
☀️ What is your favorite Stacey Stufflebeam Yoga meditation?
I love the Outdoor Meditation. Being outside for meditation or yoga is my favorite. Shifting focus between the words of the meditation and the sounds of nature surrounding me grounds and inspires me to think about the ‘bigger picture’, how connected we are to our surroundings. As an artist, I focus a lot on the atmosphere around me and the spaces we inhabit, which influence us at all times.
☀️ What do you love about the membership/being a member?
For me, being able to do yoga at any time, anywhere is important. I often use yoga as a way to tune in before my art practice. It is as if pre-yoga I see through my eyes and post-yoga I see through my whole body, often more lighthearted and grateful as opposed to a more cerebral experience.
☀️ Why did you join the membership?
Well, I missed seeing Stacey live at the YMCA! I have followed different yoga practices online, through videos, or on apps, and Stacey presents, by far, the most wholesome practice physically, mentally, and spiritually for me. I support my friend and her business pursuits, knowing that I am in fellowship with my favorite teacher.
☀️ How has your yoga practice helped you in your life off the mat?
Keeping an even temperament is important to me. Staying present to notice the things in life that inspire me and celebrating the moment are my gifts from practicing yoga. Not to mention, I can tell when I haven’t practiced: my balance is not as stable, my muscles are tight, and my movements are less fluid. Yoga is exercise that truly always makes you feel better in your whole body!
☀️ How has your yoga practice evolved in the membership?
By doing yoga in my studio, I can look at and meditate alongside my artwork and in the sacred space that I reserve for these practices for myself. I now connect the two practices of yoga and art-making more, as they are very similar. The playfulness, personal focus and meditation, recognizing comfortability in challenge, growth and development with continued trust in the work… I am always grateful for the time spent.
