Using Yoga to Find Calm on Election Day

Using Yoga to Find Calm on Election Day

With the intensity of Election Day, it’s natural to feel some anxiety. Yoga can be a helpful way to find calm and focus, especially when emotions are running high.

Here are a few simple practices that might help you stay grounded today:

Breathe Deeply

Take a few moments for slow, deep breaths. Try inhaling to a count of four, holding for four, and exhaling for six. This helps calm your nervous system and can ease racing thoughts.

Move Your Body

As Jill works the election, I’m teaching our Live Feel Better Yoga class this morning. I’m excited to incorporate forward folds and gentle twists into our class because they are soothing, allow you to connect with your body, and take a mental break.

Practice Mindfulness

When you feel anxious, it can help to observe your thoughts without judgment. Letting yourself acknowledge and then release these feelings can provide some relief. If that proves hard, try our newest gratitude meditation.

Grab a Journal

Use this prompt: Reflect on what freedom in your body feels like. How could you release any tension and invite more ease into your body? What movements, thoughts, or practices help you physically connect with a sense of freedom?

These simple tools can help you find calm on election day, even if just for a few minutes. Take care of yourself today!
