Yoga Retreats

Let’s talk to you about yoga retreats because I want you to know how I used to feel about them and how that’s changed.

I used to think that yoga retreats were not for me. Of course, I knew I’d love to go on one, but I didn’t think I could go on one YET.

I had a million reasons.

  • Yoga retreats were too long.
  • I was needed at home.
  • I worried (as the primary caregiver) how “everything” would get done without me there to do it.
  • My partner’s job can be unpredictable. What would happen if he was stuck in a meeting or (gasp) had to go out of town at the last minute? Our families live too far away to swoop in at the last minute.
  • Yoga retreats always seemed so expensive.

I just couldn’t go.

Every “reason” I came up with justified my thoughts. Plus, I traveled to yoga festivals and yoga weekends with friends. Those were always fun, so I convinced myself that was enough… for a while.

Eventually, I talked to my husband about it, and he reassured me that we could figure it out. Of course, I knew that, but I needed someone else to point it out to me.

I was simply making excuses so I could let my fear of the unknown stop me. I knew deep down that a retreat could change the way I looked at the world, which was just as scary as it was exciting!

So after I talked it out, I practiced the Inner Mentor meditation (in the membership) and quieted my inner critic so my future self could shine. Then guess what happened?

Finally, I went on my first “official” yoga retreat!

I had never met anyone there in person before, but I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and it was incredible! I returned a better partner, mother, and business owner because of it.

Seriously! I returned with more patience – especially for myself! I was seriously a better human.

It was worth every penny!

So I went on another one 6 months later.

Are Yoga Retreats for You?

What about you?

What have you wanted to do for a long time, but you keep coming up with “reasons” why it won’t work?

Let’s journal about it. (If you don’t want to write about it, set a timer on your phone and give yourself 5 minutes to think about it.) Use this prompt:

What have I wanted to do for a long time, but I keep coming up with reasons (excuses) why it won’t work? If I knew it would turn out well, what would I do in the next 24 hours to start my journey?

Let me be that person who points out that you can do so much more than you think you can.
